Tips to Ensure Menstrual Hygiene

Hygiene is particularly important among women of all ages. Proper menstrual
hygiene can help reduce period pain, vaginal irritations, and infections.
Here are
some easy tips that can ensure proper menstrual hygiene.
1. Choose the right sanitary product
Although there are tons of options when it comes to feminine hygiene products such as reusable sanitary pads, disposable sanitary pads, menstrual cups, tampons and more. It is important to choose the one that is most comfortable for you. It is not recommended to switch between brands, as very brand will not suit everyone.
If using a sanitary pad, It is recommended to choose the sanitary pads
based on your flow, for example you can use overnight or night sanitary pads during the heavy flow days and regular pads on the
other days followed by a pantyliner if required.
2. Change your sanitary pad every 4 hours
Sanitary pads if left unchanged are home for bacterial growth. Menstrual
blood released from the body attracts other bacteria’s and organism which can
later multiply on warmth causing irritation, infections, and bad odor. Changing
your sanitary pads, napkins or tampons every 4-6 hours can reduce the growth of
bacteria and infections. It is most important to change you pads frequently
during the heavy flow days.
3. Clean your Intimate Area well
It is important to wash your vaginal (intimate) areas properly especially after using sanitary product during periods. It is recommended to wash the intimate areas with water from vagina to anus and not backward as it can cause bacteria in anus areas to the vagina. If you don’t prefer washing using water, you may also use non perfumed wipes to clean the intimate areas.
